Betcha didn’t know how amazing these women are off of the big screen!
Well, now you do. Because Variety has announced the honorees of its 5th annual Power of Women event celebrating industry leaders and their philanthropic passions. Presented by Lifetime Television at the Beverly Wilshire Four Seasons hotel on Oct. 4th, these awards will come as a perfect follow-up to the publication of Variety’s Women’s Impact Report, which will come out at the beginning of October as well.
So without further ado, here they are:
Nicole Kidman will be recognized for her involvement with the United Nations’ UN Women campaign and its efforts to promote women’s rights worldwide. She serves as the org’s goodwill ambassador and spokeswoman for its Say No — Unite to End Violence Against Women initiative.
Sony Pictures Entertainment co-chair Amy Pascal is a longtime supporter of Teen Line, a peer hotline and community outreach program designed for and run by teenagers.
“Parks and Recreation” star Amy Poehler is a champion of Worldwide Orphans Foundation, which aims to transform the lives of orphaned children.
Charlize Theron is the founder of Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project, an initiative to keep African youth safe from HIV/AIDS. The actress has met with South African leaders and others on behalf of the org’s mission.
And last but never least, Kerry Washington is a supporter of the President’s Committee on the Arts and the Humanities. As part of the committee’s Turnaround Arts initiative, the “Scandal” star has adopted Savoy Elementary School in Washington, D.C. and recently visited the school with first lady Michelle Obama.
Here’s to these extraordinary ladies, who set a new standard for what women can achieve with great power, prestige, and finesse. Now that’s a whole box of Tough Cookies!
